The Dispensing Possibilities

What is the best way to utilize the DOSIS® system? DOSIS L60 was designed with flexibility in mind to handle your dispensing needs. Depending on your punch card demand you can put DOSIS to work for you in one or all of following ways.

High Movers

Go straight to work relieving the demand for some of your pharmacy’s highest moving drugs by dispensing “on-demand” directly from your pharmacy’s software system. 

DOSIS goes to work as soon as the prescription is cleared for dispensing (ready for printing). With just 60 drugs in automation, DOSIS can relieve roughly one-third of your punch card demand. If you want to increase above one-third, just add another L60. Of course, another L60 does not get you another one third, but more like one-half of your punch card demand because the dispensing frequency typically is less for the next 60 medications.  Having two L60s’ however will double your through put per hour, and  you will also increase up-time since canister are interchangeable across system in the rare cases where one of your L60 systems might have down-time. There is always power in numbers!

Don’t forget about pre-packing through DOSIS during non-peak and off hours. With DOSIS canisters, you can affordably pre-pack some of your lower demand drugs in small quantities with just a quick change out of the canisters, which can be done while the system is dispensing (no down-time). This allows you to even further reduce your labor demands on peak dispensing days.

Extemporaneous

Go to work picking up your slack on the extemporaneous part of your formulary “on-demand”. This case is great for optimizing and simplifying your pharmacy technicians' work day by having them dispense (potentially from pre-packs) the higher demand which allows them to focus on just dispensing, not fetching a different drug for each punch card.  For those pharmacies who have already made a purchase of a dedicated system for pre-packing, this is a great option.

With after hours dispensing, you can supplement your demand across your entire formulary with one automation solution, the DOSIS L60. Similar to Option-1, you can pre-pack your high volume drugs when DOSIS is not filling the extemporaneous portion of your formulary.  Note that you don’t have to just pre-pack one drug; you can pre-pack from as many canisters as you wish. This flexibility enables you to control your inventory.

Controlled Drugs

Don’t forget the Lagniappe! That’s right, there is always a little something extra. The L60 can also aid you in dispensing your controlled drugs as well. Why not dedicate a few canisters for your controlled drugs and dedicate some DOSIS time to pre-packing your high demand controlled drugs? This is guaranteed to simplify your inventory audits and directly relieve your pharmacist!
